Bob Duggan, MA, MAc (UK), DiplAc (NCCA), Guest Panelists
By our words we create our world! Our bodies believe the words we speak and act accordingly. For healers, this conversation is a call to design our speaking carefully to empower long-term healing. This unique panel explores how our beliefs affect our health and ways to evolve our thinking regarding belief systems and illness.

Illness and Beliefs – East-West Case Studies
Bob Duggan, MA, MAc (UK), DiplAc (NCCA), facilitator; Christine Page, MD: Stephen Cowan, MD; Nan Lu, OMD
What if our beliefs create our realities? Experienced practitioners explore this vital question through various case studies. For example, for twenty years the great historian philosopher Ivan Illich was told by physicians that the huge lump on the right the side of his face was malignant and would quickly kill him. He insisted it was "more room for my niece to kiss me on." He died peacefully in his easy chair at age 78 while planning a conference with friends.
11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Part I: Type 2 Diabetes: Another Great American Disease
Thea Elijah, MAc
Today, heart disease and cancer capture great attention, but in the past decade, Type 2 diabetes has seen a 33 percent jump, causing it to be labeled a “new epidemic” in children and young adults. Stressful lifestyles make us choose fast foods over healthier nutritional options. From Chinese medicine perspective, giving our bodies what they want versus what they need leads to a state of imbalance, an ideal breeding ground for Type 2 diabetes. Explore belief systems that reflect prevailing cultural attitudes of “deserving” more for less. Discover how the challenge of change can help us rediscover real pleasure in simple foods and genuine fulfillment from work.
12:30 - 2:30 p.m.

Historical and Clinical Uses of Sexuality: A Chinese Medicine Perspective
Felice Dunas, OMD
Unique to Chinese medicine is the understanding that physical pleasure heals the body. Conversely, ordinary sex can weaken even the strongest person and patients may unwittingly be damaging the effects of the practitioner’s work through improper sexual activity. Erotic healing practices are among the oldest in Oriental Medicine (OM) and can turn making love into one of the most powerful tools patients have for healing their bodies and their lives. Once understood and integrated into a practice, these sophisticated theories and techniques can benefit patients’ physical health, self-esteem and interpersonal relationships. This session introduces participants to a most sacred and secretive aspect of TCM. (Sexually explicit material is tastefully presented.)
- Practitioners will learn the historical clinical roles that sexual healing has played in OM.
- Practitioners will expand their knowledge of the body-mind connection from an OM perspective and gain practical tools to benefit patients immediately.
- Practitioners will learn skills for discussing health-related aspects of sexuality with patients.
- Practitioners will discover clinical applications for sexual healing practices to support optimal health, as well as recovery from specific disorders.
Changing Posture, Breath and Intention to Facilitate Healing
Brother /Doctor Bernard Seif, SMC, EdD, DNM
Subtle adjustments to the way we move our body, breathe, and set our intention profoundly affect the flow of Qi, blood, and neurotransmitters. This experiential session explores the three foundations of medical Qigong: posture, breath, and intention as vehicles for self-healing and wellness. In addition to discussing the theoretical aspects of these components of health, participants will also learn and practice some exercises that relate to each one. Be prepared for some positive psychology as well!
5:00 - 7:30 p.m.
Dinner on Your Own
7:45 – 9:00 p.m
The Magic of Movement: the Power of Group Practice
Christine Page, MD; Nan Lu, OMD
When individuals gather, they form a powerful energy field. When they suspend their disbelief and gather with intent to perform specific ancient movements that act as antennae to guide Universal Qi or energy into the body, group practice takes on magical aspects. Tonight, learn the power of group energy practice and the healing benefits of specially selected Qigong movements.
