The Spirit of Energy and The Science of Flux
Heiner Freuhauf, PhD, LAc
The revelations of modern science describe a Universe that is a conglomerate of highly dynamic processes, essentially affirming that "everything moves." This new science of flux, however, seems to have done very little to bring about significant improvements in our everyday lives.
In the ancient culture of China, scientific theories about life and the Universe had very direct implications for the integrity and well-being of its people. It is the Chinese who, along with their medicine, have left behind the most detailed documentation about the different states of Universal flow, and that flow's interface with every aspect of life in this world. It is only when this concept of flow is understood from the broad perspective of consciousness and energy, do we see the singular and truly pragmatic wisdom of Chinese medicine for modern life.

The Foundations of Medical Qigong
Nan Lu, OMD, LAc
Medical Qigong is routinely prescribed for a wide variety of conditions in China, but the discipline is anything by routine. Rarely taught in the West, Medical Qigong requires intense practice and study. Special Qigong postures and movements can help restore function to organs that are out of balance and bodies that are broken. With this restoration can come miracles. Why? The cultivated Qi or life force of the practitioner has been opened through his or her practice and can be consciously directed to support true healing.
The foundations of Medical Qigong can be found in the intensive practice of special energy movements that help move energy or Qi from the practitioner to the patient. It has been known to produce miracles in healing. Dr. Lu will talk about his unique program, the Tao of Medical Qigong, that he and his master in China have developed, to help participants understand the benefits of Medical Qigong and why, how and when Western health-care professionals can apply this ancient system in their own practice.
Part I: All Diseases Come from the Heart
Heiner Freuhauf, PhD, LAc
This presentation attempts to fill an obvious gap in the study of Chinese medicine education by presenting a systematic analysis of the five virtues of Chinese antiquity and their direct relationship to the five organ systems.
Prof. Fruehauf analyzes the symbolism of relevant pictograms to reveal a layer of complex information associated with the topic of human virtue and the related five, six, and seven states of emotional sensibility. To convey a living example for the application of virtue therapy in modern China, he will introduce the healing system utilized by the Confucian peasant saint Wang Fengyi (1864-1937) and several generations of his students. (Part II continues this afternoon.)

Part II: All Diseases Come from the Heart
Heiner Freuhauf, PhD, LAc
Part Two continues with an exploration of the ancient texts as they relate to modern life. The tenets of classical Chinese medicine regard emotional imbalance as a spiritual affliction of primary significance; however, they also regard emotional sensibility as our greatest asset in the process of discovering the meaning of our lives. Learn how human temperaments present the greatest liability and the greatest opportunity in fulfilling our human destiny.
Part I: Building Your Energy Foundation with the Eight Treasures of Qigong
Dean Deng, CMD (China), LAc
The Eight Treasures of Qigong experiential workshop introduces a unique energy system designed for total well-being. Created thousands of years ago and integrated in traditional Chinese medicine, these healing techniques are used by the medical community today in China and in parts of the U.S. The focus is on developing, maintaining and learning how to control the life force (Qi) that flows through the body.
Participants will discover how a tranquil mind, soft breathing and slow, gentle movements can help return life to its original pattern of harmony and balance. Whether used for health maintenance or rehabilitation, this Qigong program, which is popular with doctors, nurses and bodywork therapists, can be done by anyone. Its numerous benefits include stress relief, increased energy, reduction of aches and pains, improved circulation, better digestion, a stronger immune system, and renewal of one's energy foundation. (Continues on Sunday)
Toxic Stress in Children
Stephen Cowan MD, FAAP
Twentieth-century endocrinologist Hans Selye first coined the term stress to address the rising problem of General Adaptive Syndrome in our modern society. There are striking similarities between his observations and the perspectives found in the Chinese medicine classics. Because of the intensely adaptive processes taking place in the developing child, he or she is particularly vulnerable to the cumulative toxic effects of biological stress. This has been linked to a host of rising chronic physical and emotional health problems in our children today. Exposures to fast foods, artificial preservatives, heavy metals, advanced technologies, and other environmental factors all play a role in this syndrome.
Chinese medicine offers a uniquely non-linear perspective on the way we respond to the challenges of life. Join Stephen Cowan, MD, holistic developmental pediatrician, as he discusses the clinical relevance and management of toxic stress in children.
The Cosmic Dance: Applying the Yin/Yang Principle of Chinese Medicine to Daily Life
Josie Zhuo, MTCM, LAc
Classical Chinese medicine principles are deeply rooted in Nature and the Natural Law, which determine the course of all created life. This truly ecological system of medicine recognizes that what happens to the parts, happens to the whole whether the part is an organ, a fractured relationship, or environmental pollution. Unlike the current mindset of "kill the enemy, this ancient perspective views everything as a teacher and a part of the whole.
Offering clear advice in a usable fashion, this experiential workshop delves into the exquisite mystery of the Universal Yin/Yang force and its relevance in everyday life. From the perspective of Chinese medicine, all disharmony indicates an imbalance in the Yin/Yang force. By learning simple Taiji postures, you will gain a sense of where balance and imbalances exist in your body. This physical experience can lead to greater self-trust and well-being. It can also help you see more clearly how to bring your spirit and passion into your world. Discover how to re-see your life and your profession from a perspective where nothing is an accident and everything has purpose.

Making Way for the Divine Feminine
Her Holiness Sai Maa Lakshmi Devi
We live in a time of tremendous transformation and healing. We are witnessing both cataclysmic occurrences on our planet, as well as unprecedented waves of rising consciousness and compassion. What is happening? Join HH Sai Maa as she opens us to the power of the Divine Feminine, the positive force behind this beautiful wave of change.
In the West, for millennia, we have been in the throes of the masculine energies of power, conquest, and assertion. We have steadily devalued the softer qualities of equality, surrender, and dialogue. In our age, we are moving into balance, as the "other face of God" begins to take root in people's hearts. With her gift of Shakti, Sai Maa empowers us to listen to this nurturing energy of Love in our souls, and awakens all to the consciousness of our true destiny as Light bearers to the world.
